The brushes wear out with use. When they are new they are around 20mm / 0.8" long. They are easily replaced by
sliding off the black plastic cover.
PM50 Low profile brush
The PM50 brush measure 6mm x 10mm x 20mm and may have J47
stamped on it. The brass spade connector width is 9.5mm.
The newer PM50
brushes for motors made after around 1999 have a right angled tag. This tag fits into a location slot on the low
profile brush holder. If yours doesn't you probably need the high profile PM50 brush

PM50 / PM63 High profile brush
The PM50 / PM63 brush measure 6mm x 10mm x 25mm and
may have E134 stamped on it. The brass spade connector width is 9.5mm.
To fit into
motors with the old style brush holders which extend approx 25mm / 1" from the motor body.
